Artist's Bio - Karen Brady Hammontree

I live in Knoxville, Tn, with my husband of 17 years, our 2 girls and a menagerie of pets.

I have been a working artist for over 20 years, and a soft-sculpture artist for over 10 years. I also love working with mixed media. My goal is to create handcrafted, artisan pieces that can be cherished for years to come. Each one of my animals is created from either German mohair, German viscose, vintage feed sack fabrics, or other materials. Each piece is created in an antique, primitive or whimsical style based on my love of art, history and antiques.

My work has been featured in numerous magazines in the U.S. and abroad, and has been featured 3 times on the cover of Prims Magazine. I was selected as one of the top 100 craftsmen in America from 2007-2013, by Early American Life magazine. I was also nominated in 2008-2010 for a TOBY(Teddy Bear of the Year) award by Teddy Bear & Friends magazine.

All of my creations are one-of-a-kind and created with care & attention to detail. Even though I may reuse my patterns, each piece turns out with its own unique style. I spend many hours in my studio, surrounded by things I love, creating each piece to be an heirloom treasure for my collectors, and something special that can be passed on for years to come.
