"Keep Calm And Have A Cupcake"
We are big fans of the "tribute with a twist". Taking an iconic idea/image...bringing a lil' bit of your own magic to it and ending up with something special in it's own right. Paying tribute has been at the core of our creative process since we started. We design brand new originals that hopefully evoke the feelings of having seen them before...on the vintagey walls of your past.
This piece is based on an old World War II era poster that was issued by the British government. During wartime, it was important to try to keep the public informed, and as free from panic as possible. The original poster read: "Keep Calm and Carry On" , and at the top there was a graphic of a crown to signify that this directive came from the King.
Well since then, a lot of people fell in love with this simple design and positive message and repro posters in all colors are now available.
What you see here is our cheeky take on that design icon...we offer a bit more incentive than simply "carrying on"...in order for us to "Keep Calm" there's gotta be some cupcakes involved!
This is 100% handpainted on a 16" x 20" raised canvas. The background pink is one of our perfect mixes. For an extra vintage bakery kick we trimmed the border with vintage recipe book clippings. We'll be offering this in a pale robins egg blue/aqua as well so look for that listing and if it isn't there just ask.
Sealed for protection. Signed, dated, and ready to hang...no need to frame at all!

"Cupcake Girls"
We started this collection of paintings with Charlotte, then the next edition was The Well Read Raven. Our plan all along was to take the elements we used in those paintings and put them side by side with our beloved classic cupcakes...now we bring you Cupcake Girls! The theme here is color and pattern. Pale turquoise, antique aqua, perfect shabby pinks, tans, mocha, and always a dash of chic black. And creating our very own vintage inspired wallpaper is a specialty of ours. We love mixing stripes with florals, polka dots with plaids etc... If it's good pattern and good color...then there can never be too much!
Porcelain dolls figure big into our vintage collectibles and we just had to set them in a still life with our buttercream frosted cupcakes. Beside focusing on color and pattern, all these new paintings will serves as tributes to some of our favorite collectibles and inspirations. We literally filled a table top with inspiration when creating this piece...everything from lace doilies and tiny German doll busts, to sugar flowers and nonpareils. Like the others in this collection, Cupcake Girls measures 11" x 14" and is on a 3/4" thick wooden board with a tan/mocha border. It's a high quality print of our original painting and it's given a slight antique wash and some distressing on the edges. The back is signed, dated, labeled and complete with a sawtooth bracket for hanging. Oh yes, and we never forget to adorn our pieces with fine glitter highlights!
