My "Holly Jolly July" offering is a punchneedle or rug hooking e-pattern that was designed from an antique hooked rug depicting Santa and his reindeer. I fell in love with this rug (actually, a picture of the rug) after visiting the Thos. K. Woodard rug and quilt shop in NYC in 1980. After putting my name on their mailing list I received a wonderful card for a Christmas open house featuring the rug and some antique ornaments. I was smitten and held on to that card for nearly thirty years, wondering how I could re-create the image I loved so much.
After discovering punchneedle and realizing I could do a miniature version of the rug, I came up with this design. Its finished size is approximately 4 x 6" but the pattern may be enlarged or made smaller, depending on how you want to work. This is a scanned picture of the finished piece. (I also like to add beads and pearls to my punchneedle pieces.)
