The Ghost of Lizzie Borden Original Collage

I have always been fascinated with the story of Lizzie Borden after watching the movie many years ago. The idea of creating a collage about her story has been floating around in my mind for several years, and I finally put it all together for PFATT this month. I love how it all turned out! I used copies of the actual photos taken for the trial back in 1893 of Lizzie herself, her house and the purported murder weapon…the broken axe. The house I did as an image transfer onto the painted canvas, and then I layered the other images of her, the axe, and a copy of one of the newspaper stories of her arrest. I also added a copy of the rhyme sung by the children back in the days of her trial, and to make Lizzie a little creepier, I gave her bat wings of a mottled brown paper that I stamped an antique floral image onto. I distressed and antiqued all of the photos and papers, and finished off the collage with a creamy coating of tinted bees wax. I added some droplets of red wax for a spooky blood effect! I have made this collage on an 8” by 8” square gallery wrapped deep edge canvas. The sides have been painted black and I finished them with a coating of bees wax too. A frame is not necessary, as it can be hung straight out of the box, and this original one of a kind collage will come to you signed and dated on the back Sylvia Anderson 2008. Vintage Lizzie Necklace

Continuing on with the Lizzie Borden theme this month, I have made a one of a kind necklace. I did a mini collage using a different image of Lizzie which I layered onto a copy of the newspaper article concerning her arrest for the murders. For the back, I printed out the children’s rhyme and have inked and antiqued all of the papers used for this mini collage. I sealed it into a vintage optical test lens, and the back of the lens has been sealed with a protective clear coating. I have attached the charm necklace onto a burnished copper colored metal cable link chain that is 24” in length, and added two small vintage beads. These old beads are fabulous! The larger one is a beautiful filigree cage ball, and the smaller one also has some filigree work with a pretty pink rhinestone in the center. The lens is 1.5” in diameter. The chain can be shortened upon request, and It will come to you signed and dated on the back and gift boxed.
